Many people receive tax refunds from the IRS and wonder how long it will take to receive your refund. You wait by the mailbox or look at your bank account hoping that your refund is there. We will fill you in on the tax refund schedule and how long it takes for the IRS to issue refunds.
When Are Taxes Due?
The deadline to submit your 2018 tax return and pay your tax bill is April 15, 2019. If you are unable to meet the tax deadline, you can file an extension.
When will I Receive My Tax Refund?
If you go to the Where’s My Refund tool, you can check the status of your refund on the IRS website or go to the IRS2Go mobile app.
To find out the status of your tax refund, you will need to provide your Social Security Number (SSN), filing status and the exact dollar amount of your expected refund.

- Time from the day you file until you receive your refund if you E-File: Direct Deposit - 1-3 Weeks
- Time from the day you file until you receive your refund if you Paper File: Direct Deposit - 3 Weeks
- Time from the day you file until you receive your refund if you E-File: Check in Mail - 1 Month
- Time from the day you file until you receive your refund if you Paper File: Check in Mail - 2 months
